The August 2026 WASDE sample
This sample is built from USDA's August 2026 WASDE, released August 12, 2026, with the week's crop condition from NASS and diesel prices from EIA beside it. It is free, it is not for sale, and it is here so a grower can judge the format before anything else.
Check it against USDA's own document. Every chart names the table and the row it plots, and the figures sit under each chart exactly as the agency printed them.

US corn production
Million bushels, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
August's corn crop is 16013 million bushels, 13 more than July and 1008 below 2025/26. For an unpriced bushel, the size of the crop barely moved this month. What moved was underneath it, in the acres and the yield, and the next two charts show how.

US corn yield
Bushels per harvested acre, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
The August yield is 180.7 bushels per harvested acre, 2.3 below July's 183.0 and 5.8 below 2025/26. It is a forecast read off the crop in the field, so it can move again before the combines run.
From WASDE - 674, August 2026: U.S. Feed Grain and Corn Supply and Use, Corn, Yield per Harvested Acre. NASS Crop Production, released August 12, 2026, carries the same 180.7.

US corn area harvested
Million acres, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
Harvested area went to 88.6 million acres in August, 1.2 million more than July. Those extra acres are what kept the crop size steady while the yield came down.

Corn ending stocks and stocks-to-use
Two panels on their own scales. Above: ending stocks, million bushels. Below: stocks-to-use, ending stocks divided by total use in the same column. The dark mark is the August projection.
Ending stocks for 2026/27 came down to 1653 million bushels, 137 below July, while total use went up to 16330. That takes stocks-to-use from 11.0 percent in July to 10.1 percent in August. A thinner carryout against a bigger use number is the line to read beside the price in the next chart.
From WASDE - 674, August 2026: U.S. Feed Grain and Corn Supply and Use, Corn, Ending Stocks and Use, Total. Stocks-to-use is the division of those two rows, column by column.
The figures, as printed

Corn season-average farm price
Dollars per bushel, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
USDA's projection for the 2026/27 season-average farm price is $4.50 a bushel, up $0.10 from July. That is an average across a whole marketing year, not a bid on any one day, so an unpriced bushel still answers to the local basis and the day it sells.

US soybean production
Million bushels, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
Soybean production is 4519 million bushels, 44 above July and 257 above 2025/26. Here too the acres did the work, because the yield went the other way.

Soybean area harvested and ending stocks
Two panels on their own scales. Above: area harvested, million acres. Below: ending stocks, million bushels. The dark bar is the August projection.
Harvested area rose 1.4 million acres from July to 85.8 million, and ending stocks rose 10 to 320 million bushels. The crop grew by 44 and the carryout by 10, so most of the extra beans are already spoken for in USDA's use numbers.

Soybean season-average farm price
Dollars per bushel, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
The projected season-average price held at $11.40 a bushel, the same as July and $1.00 above 2025/26. For an unpriced bean, this report moved the supply side and left the price projection where it was.

US wheat ending stocks
Million bushels, by marketing year. The dark bar is the August projection.
Wheat ending stocks are projected at 717 million bushels, 5 below July and 203 below 2025/26. The month's change is small; the drop from last year is the bigger story on this chart.

Corn and soybean condition
Percent rated good plus excellent, 18 States, week ending August 16, 2026, beside the same week a year earlier.
Corn rated 60 percent good plus excellent across the 18 States for the week ending August 16, 2026, 11 points below the 71 of a year earlier. Soybeans rated 61 against 68, 7 points lower. Condition is the weekly read from the field, and it is what the yield forecasts in charts two and seven sit beside.
From NASS Crop Progress, released August 17, 2026: Corn Condition and Soybean Condition, Selected States, 18 States row and Previous year row. Good plus excellent is the sum of those two columns.
The figures, as printed
| Row | Good | Excellent | Good plus excellent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corn, 18 States | 47 | 13 | 60 |
| Corn, Previous year | 50 | 21 | 71 |

US diesel retail price
U.S. No 2 Diesel Retail Prices, dollars per gallon, weekly. The dark bar is the latest week.
The national average retail price for No 2 diesel was $5.652 a gallon in the week of 2026-08-24, up $0.198 from the week before and $0.395 from 2026-08-10. Harvest runs on diesel, so a harvest budget written at the earlier price is short by that much on each gallon, at the national average.
From EIA, U.S. No 2 Diesel Retail Prices (Dollars per Gallon), weekly, periods 2026-08-10, 2026-08-17 and 2026-08-24.
The figures, as printed

What to watch
The next WASDE updates every row on this page. These are the ones this edition says to keep an eye on.
- Whether the corn yield holds at 180.7 bushels or moves again as the crop finishes, and whether the soybean yield holds at 52.7.
- Whether harvested area stays at 88.6 million acres for corn and 85.8 million for soybeans. In August the acres carried both crops.
- Corn ending stocks and stocks-to-use, at 1653 million bushels and 10.1 percent in this report, beside the $4.50 price projection.
- The weekly condition ratings in each Crop Progress release, against the 60 percent for corn and 61 for soybeans read here.
- The weekly diesel price through harvest, against the $5.652 of 2026-08-24.
How this was built
Every figure on this page was read from the agencies' own files. Nothing was typed in from a news story or a summary.
- World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates, WASDE - 674, August 2026. USDA. Charts one to ten.
- World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates, WASDE - 673, July 2026. USDA. Used to check the July column the August report carries.
- Crop Production, released August 12, 2026. USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The corn and soybean yield forecasts.
- Crop Progress, released August 17, 2026, condition for the week ending August 16, 2026. USDA, NASS. Chart eleven.
- U.S. No 2 Diesel Retail Prices (Dollars per Gallon), weekly, 2026-08-10, 2026-08-17 and 2026-08-24. U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). Chart twelve.
Each chart plots its rows as printed. The marketing-year columns are WASDE's own: 2024/25, 2025/26 Est., 2026/27 Proj. Jul and 2026/27 Proj. Aug. Stocks-to-use is ending stocks divided by total use in the same column. Good plus excellent is the sum of those two columns in the 18 States row. Every change in the text is the difference between two printed values. Bars start at zero, so a small change looks small.
Projections are USDA's, and they change from month to month. Public data only; not investment advice.
